Mae Rim to Chiang Mai to Lampang

Sunday October 29,
We awoke Sunday early feeling quite refreshed and happy after the romantic Thai wedding of Rick and Chan. We headed into Chiang Mai bus station to inquire about our departure and stored our bags. Then it was off to the sunday walking market within Thae Phae gate. This turned out to be our first purchases of the trip. we found two fabulous Thai silk bedspreads that we plan to make into a duvet cover for our bed, a Teak Buddha face, and some presents to bring back to the states. Across from the market Jen, our fabulous local tour guide, took us for falafel's at the Jerusalem Cafe. Yum!! I really love falafels and these tasted Sooooo good. I must compliment Jen's knowledge of the local markets and food. We have yet to have a bad , or even middling experience with her.
Then onto the bus station for our several hour trip down to Lampang. On the way down we saw all these Spirit houses on the side of the road to ward off any evil mountain spirits. Quite cool, and our bus driver tooted his horn at every picture of the king. They do love their king here, and with a leader like George W it is hard to image the type of love the Thais have for their king. To show this love on Mondays they wear yellow shirts adorned with the kings insignia. Jen has a gold skirt that she wears and has been told it is the Number One Gold Skirt.
Once we arrived in Lampang, we saw Jens house, absolutely gorgeous, and only 5000 baht per month, approximately 150 US. I was quite enamoured with the tile throughout, having just remodeled my bathroom, and found her living room tile to be quite beautiful. We checked into our guest house, The Riverview, ate dinner and called it a night.
