A Day of Relaxation...
31Oct2006
In the morning we headed back to BigC to get a card reader for my camera, yes I forgot my USB cable to upload my pictures (I am blonde still you know) but on the positive side it was opnly 350 baht- less than 10 bucks. I can get used to the prices here very easily. Then back to the Internet cafe, in which we encountered our first argument over price with a tsongthao driver, luckily, our gueshouse owner, Lorenza, came to our defense (Thanks!!). It seems even in Thailand they know the PT Barnum quote "There is a sucker born every minute." Luckily for us this was not our minute=).
After a breif blog update we met up with Jen and Hiliary for Veggie food--YUM!! Yum!! All of the tofu was disguised to look like meat- and it was very good!!
After filling our bellies, we headed to Lampang Northern herbal Institute where we treated ourselves to Herbal Baths, Body and face scrubs, and Thai Massage. The herbs came right out of the faucet and it looked as if i was sitting in a tub of Coca-Cola!! You could feel the toxins leaving your body. The body scrub was a unique experience, and the Thai woman kept calling me "Mr Handsome" over and over and over and over again- I think she was hitting on me??? By the end I was 'Mr Handsome 54'- Not too sure what that means except maybe she called me 'Mr Handsome', 54 times in that hour??? Rebecca got a terrible migrane, most likely from dehydration and all of the toxins released in the herbal bath. We all felt for her, especially me as I battle migranes and know how debilitating they can be. The scrub was mad eout of cumin, lemongrass, and other things, and after the scrub they cover you with yogurt. Quite interesting!! I felt tasty!! I will never think of yogurt the same way again!!
We got Rebecca back to the guesthouse for a sleep to recover. Hiliary, Jen, and I headed to the night market for dinner. I had spicy green papaya salad- smoking HOT-spicky thai green beans (which Woody intoduced me to in SLC!), green mango with sweet skin, and pineapple, all washed down with a large Singha! YUM!! I chatted with Jen and Hiliary for about an hour or so, they gave me big hugs when I left. I headed back to check on Rebecca. It seemed that the rest was helpful and she was hungry, so we went to the Riverview restaurant where we ran into other 'farangs.' Nadine and Lao, who we met at Rick and chan's wedding, and a nice Aussie bloke named Lance. He said that he had been to SLC a few time to buy diamond tipped drill bits. This struck a cord and I asked him if he knew of Tonto Drilling. He said that was the company that he bought from, of course, I then asked if he knew a gentleman named Mclaren that worked for them. He said George Mclaren? Then stated that he had met a Mclaren on an island west of New Guinea some years back. Can this really be Matt's father?? As he described him perfectly. He gave me his card, Aztec Engineering Co. LTD. Lance Bird was his full name. What a small world!!!! I have have to check into this!! he told me to watch out for Chang Beer as it is not regulated and each bottles potency varies from 5% to 8.5%. I didn't worry too much as I am used to Woody's home brew which I think averages 7%. So, it is true, Woody's home brew is soo good and soo good for you!!
