Wonderful day in Sukhothai!!

Thursday 02Nov2006
We woke early today excited about the sites we were going to see. Unfortunately, well fortunately for me, we had an incident in the 'outdoorsey' bathroom of the Cocoon Guesthouse that we are staying at. Shawn turned the shower on and things when a little haywire from that. There was this crazy centipede on steroids that was flapping around the floor, gross. Shawn tried to kill it, afterall, he is bigger than that thing- yeah right, the thing duidn't die. He asked me to grab a shoe but we had to take shoes off before entering the building so we had none. I handed him a glass which didn't help too much- but the thing finally dies and it was soo disgusting- creepy. They have the wierdest bugs here in SE Asia- you just cannot know what they are, ever. Lucky for me Shawn saved the day!!
We went to this little place to eat breakfast and they served us the STRONGEST coffee I have ever tasted- had to put in soooo much sugar and had to gulp it down- was it good? not really- did it wake us up? Hell yeah it did!! Keeping in tune with the bugs something bit Shawn at breakfast- poor guy- he ALWAYS gets bitten- I am serious- like 200 times more than me- SWEET MEAT HE IS!! What a trooper!!
We made it to this makeshift busstop that took us to the Sukhothai Historical park. From there we rented bicycles- the guy says "rent from me- I have big size for you!" Gee thanks!!
Sukhothai is the first capitol of Thailand and has a rich history. Read about it!! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sukhothai_kingdom
Since it is Loi Kratong time here in Thailand http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loi_Kratong the entire place is grearing up for the festival. This is the best place to be during the festival we are told. Many many preparations are happening- Shawn is standing in front of a Kratong- which is a boat made from bananna leaves that flotes in the water with a candle and incense in it. It is a festival for lovers as well- if the kratong floates then the love is strong. This picture is Shawn standing in front of a large kratong in the water- it will be lit on Sunday. Some school boys wanted to talk and shake my hand- I think that I am bringing Sexy Back!! Ha!!!
We rode our bikes all around the park. We also ventured out the North and East park entrances- which have other ruins that are less preserved. It was a beautiful hot day- riding through the countryside was amazing!! I guess we could have hires someone to take us or rented a moto but the bikes suited us just fine!! We will post the photos- we took about 200 of them. We rode our bikes all day- from 9 until almost 4- sooo amazing!!
We got a bite to eat after that as we were starving- and lucky us- there was this really long parade for Loi Kratong right in front of us!! It is all about the timing in life!!
We went back to our guesthouse to wash up and see that we both got major sun!! We didn't know it but we did!!
Then we went looking for the Internet shop that we used yesterday and it was gone=- I mean vanished- I asked another shopkeeper and all she could tell me was NO. Wierd but yet charicteristic of Asia.
So we wandered and found another shop- and outside there is this crazy Toyota advertisement- concert thingy happening---i wish I could understadn but the music is cool!!!
WHAT A WONDERFUL DAY!! Wonderful to be here- Wonderful things we saw today-and Wonderful to share this amazing experience with Shawn!!
